AltaFuture Project

To empower first-generation high school students with the financial knowledge they deserve—reaching 50+ students across 2–3 schools in our first year. Through engaging workshops, student-friendly toolkits, and brochures distributed directly to schools, we aim to make financial literacy accessible, relatable, and life-changing for the students who need it most.

Financial Literacy for
First Gen Students

Get Started

About us

At our core, we're here to help first-gen high school students take control of their futures with clarity, confidence, and community. We go far beyond the basics—covering everything from budgeting and saving to Roth IRAs, high-yield savings accounts, credit-building, and 529 college plans. These are the tools I wish I had access to earlier—resources that lead to long-term success. Through interactive workshops, peer-led “Finance Friday” tips, downloadable toolkits, and school-based chapters, AltaFuture makes financial literacy feel real and within reach.

Why are we doing this ?

Too many first-generation students are expected to make big financial decisions without ever being taught how. We’re doing this to change that—to give students like us access to the knowledge, tools, and confidence we wish we had earlier. From understanding credit to learning about Roth IRAs and 529 college plans, we're here to make financial literacy relatable, practical, and empowering. This is more than a project—it’s a movement to make sure no one has to figure out money alone.

Our Goals

Reach 50+ first-gen students across 2–3 high schools in our first year
Design and distribute clear, relatable financial literacy toolkits and brochures
Launch interactive workshops and peer-led sessions in schools and online
Build a community that makes learning about money accessible and empowering

Founder

AltaFuture was born from a simple idea: every student deserves to understand money—not just when it’s too late, but right now.

I’m Jasmin Altamirano, a first-generation student, entrepreneur, and founder of AltaFuture. My First Step Into Business
In high school, I started a bracelet business from scratch and turned it into a $400 profit. That small success proved to me that ideas—when backed by passion and strategy—can thrive. It planted the seed for what would become a much bigger mission.
Learning to Lead
As a core officer and Parliamentarian in FBLA, a student in my school’s Business & Entrepreneurship pathway, and a project manager in business classes, I learned how to lead, present, and plan with purpose.
Beyond school, I worked as my school’s Work-Based Learning Coordinator’s assistant and served as an Events Intern for the City of Lawrenceville. These experiences taught me how to thrive in professional environments and make an impact behind the scenes.
Why AltaFuture Matters
Even with all that experience, I still remember how lost I felt the first time I heard terms like 529 college plans or high-yield savings accounts.I kept asking myself:
Why didn’t anyone teach us this earlier?
That question became my mission: to make sure students like me don’t get left behind when it comes to financial literacy.
The Vision of AltaFuture
AltaFuture exists to break down real-world financial topics—budgeting, saving, credit, investing, and beyond—into lessons that are actually useful and accessible.
We believe financial literacy is a right, not a privilege. And we’re turning that belief into action through:
☑ Engaging workshops
☑ Digital toolkits
☑ Peer mentorship
☑ School-based chapters
Giving Back
I also love sharing scholarship tips. If you’re a student looking for ways to fund your future, feel free to reach out—I’m always happy to help.

Donate Now

AltaFuture is powered by students and supported by people like you. Your donation helps us continue building resources, running workshops, and giving first-generation students the confidence to manage their financial futures.

Your Donations help us:

Empower First-Generation Students – Your donation helps provide toolkits, workshops, and mentorship to students who may not otherwise receive financial education.
Break the Cycle of Financial Exclusion – Many first-gen students don’t have access to financial guidance at home. Your support bridges that gap.
Support Accessible Resources – Every donation funds free resources like guides, newsletters, and toolkits that make financial literacy simple and relatable.
Amplify Student Voices – Contributions help us create platforms where students can share challenges and solutions, building a stronger, informed community.
Create Long-Term Impact – Financial literacy isn’t just for today — your donation helps students make smarter decisions throughout their lives.
Sustain a Grassroots Movement – AltaFuture is student-centered and community-driven. Donations ensure the project remains independent and accessible.
